WINNEMUCCA, Nev. — High Rock Canyon Road is open for the season. High Rock Canyon is a 14-mile canyon and a great place for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and off-roading. High Rock Canyon is approximately 50 miles north of Gerlach, Nevada and 40 miles east of Cedarville, California.

High Rock Canyon Road is closed each year between the end of chukar hunting season (around February 1st) until the second weekend in May to minimize human disturbance on nesting raptors and lambing bighorn sheep. As of May 7, 2022, High Rock Canyon is open for the public to enjoy!

If planning a visit through High Rock Canyon, please plan ahead and prepare.  The road through High Rock Canyon is very rugged and remote and requires four-wheel drive, high-clearance vehicles. Multiple, full-size spare tires and extra water are strongly encouraged. Camping is limited to designated sites only.
