CASPER, Wyo. – Fall programs at the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center begin this Saturday with The Journey of Alfred J. Adams’ Journal, 1859-2021. Join historian and Park Ranger Kylie L. McCormick at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 4 as she recounts the journey of Alfred James Adams and the accounts of his newly discovered, unpublished journal.

Adams crossed the North Platte River using a toll bridge on July 2, 1859, carrying in his pack a small, leather-bound journal where he recorded his daily travels. One hundred and sixty-two years later, two sisters walked into the Trails Center following the entries from their great-great-grandfather’s journal.

“The story of the resurfacing of Alfred J. Adams’ journal is a remarkable tale and a testament to the rich heritage of the National Historic Trails system in Wyoming,” Trails Center Manager Dennis Kuhnel says. “Don’t miss Ranger Kylie’s wonderful recounting of these events.”
