WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Consistent with the U.S. Department of the Interior’s priority to support local communities and access to recreational opportunities, the Bureau of Land Management Salt Lake Field Office has published a Notice of Realty Action (NORA) for the conveyance of 7.5 acres of public land located in Utah County, Utah, to the Town of Cedar Fort under the provisions of the Recreation and Public Purposes Act (R&PP Act). The NORA also reopens 92.5 acres of public land to mineral location and entry under the United States mining laws. The NORA publication initiates a 45-day public comment period from October 22 to December 7, 2020.

In 1984, the BLM classified an isolated 100-acre tract of public land within the Cedar Fort town boundaries as suitable for lease/disposal under the R&PP Act and withdrew it from mineral location and entry. Cedar Fort leased the 100-acre tract and developed 7.5 acres for recreation and public purposes. Today, the parcel provides space for a community center/town office, parking lots, picnic area with fire pits, horseshoe pits, water well, and water pipeline.

The NORA is available on the Federal Register website at https://www.govinfo.gov/app/collection/FR/. Interested members of the public, local governments, Tribes, organizations, and other stakeholders may provide comments regarding the proposed application and plan of development, BLM administrative procedures in processing the conveyance, and any other factor not relating to the suitability of the lands for Cedar Fort’s continued use and operation. The BLM will not consider comments received via telephone calls.

Written comments may be mailed or emailed.
