ROSWELL, N.M. – The Bureau of Land Management today announced it will hold its first meeting of the Southern New Mexico Resource Advisory Council (RAC). The public is welcome to participate in the meeting that will occur on Dec. 2, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., via Zoom videoconferencing. Members of the public may also participate via telephone by calling 669-254-5252 and using the Webinar ID: 160 607 3522 and the Participant ID: 446443. The meeting was originally scheduled to take place at the Desert Lakes Golf Course in Alamogordo, N.M.; however, given the current New Mexico Public Health Order restrictions on public gatherings, the meeting will only be held virtually.

Planned agenda items include: member training; nominations of Chair and Vice Chair; overview of the BLM Las Cruces District, Pecos District, and Socorro Field Office major actions; the proposed fee structure at the Rob Jaggers Campground; and the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act and updates from the U.S. Forest Service for the Gila, Cibola and Lincoln National Forests.

“We believe that partnerships like RACs are important to managing sustainable, working public lands,” said BLM Las Cruces District Manager Bill Childress.

To register to attend the meeting virtually, please go to: https://blm.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_IdDVNexRSJWyPzwqRY1YNQ. A half-hour comment period during which the public may address the RAC will begin at 2:30 p.m. MST. Comments can be made via Zoom or via the phone number provided. Depending on the number of people wishing to comment and time available, the amount of time for individual oral comments may be limited.

RACs assist the BLM in continuing to be a good neighbor in the communities we serve. The 12-member RAC provides advice and recommendations to the BLM on resource and land management issues within the BLM Las Cruces District Office as well as the Socorro, Carlsbad and Roswell Field Offices.  RAC members are citizens who represent varied public land interests.
