BLM Wyoming holds successful wild horse and burro adoption at the 2018 Cheyenne Frontier Days

CHEYENNE, Wyo. –The Bureau of Land Management and Mantle Ranch Wild Horse Adoption and Training Facility successfully adopted 19 wild horses and 2 burros at the 2018 Cheyenne Frontier Days.
A 4-year-old saddle started bay mare named Gurty from the Divide Basin Herd Management Area received the high bid of $850.00. This is the third year in a row that BLM and its partners were able to adopt every animal brought to Cheyenne Frontier Days.
Each day during the event visitors enjoyed demonstrations from either the Mantle Ranch or Heroes and Horses. The Mantle Ranch Adoption and Training Facility has been a contract wild horse training facility for the BLM since 1998 and have over 26 years of professional experience. Wild horses are gentled at Mantle Ranch using pressure and release techniques and many horses from the ranch are offered at BLM adoptions. BLM Wyoming also celebrated the Mantle family’s 20-year anniversary of gentling wild mustangs with the BLM.
Heroes and Horses also provided packing demonstrations and highlighted the work they do with military veterans and wild horses. Heroes and Horses is a Montana-based nonprofit organization that has created an innovative, three-phase reintegration program offered to qualifying combat veterans suffering from PTSD. The program uses the remote wilderness of Montana, coupled with human and horse connections, to challenge and inspire personal growth in veterans suffering from mental and physical scars. The next live adoption in Wyoming will be August 15-18 at the Wyoming State Fair in Douglas, Wyoming and will feature halter-started and saddle-started horses trained at the Mantle Ranch.
