SALT LAKE CITY -- The BLM Salt Lake Field Office and the Raptor Inventory Nest Survey (RINS) are seeking volunteers to collect and manage data regarding the nesting ecology of eagles, falcons, hawks, ospreys, and owls. Prospective volunteers must contact RINS and attend a training on either February 24, or March 3, from 11:30 am – 4:30 pm at the BLM - Salt Lake Field Office located at 2370 S. Decker Lake Blvd., West Valley City, UT 84119.

“Data collected by RINS volunteers is making a difference in the way we manage public lands in Utah’s West Desert.” said Acting BLM Salt Lake Field Office Manager Mellissa Wood. “Knowing where these indicator species are nesting and identifying fledgling success rate, supports the BLM’s decision-making process.

Prior experience and scientific credentials are not required to volunteer. It is recommended that prospective volunteers own a pair of binoculars, a GPS unit, digital camera, and have an email address. You will be asked to commit at least two field days per month from March through June, monitoring an assigned area.

Interested persons can contact RINS at (801) 554-0807 or info@rins.org. For more information, visit http://rins.org/.
