SALT LAKE CITY—On July 25, 2017, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Salt Lake Field Office transferred a 0.36-acre parcel of public land in Box Elder County, Utah, to the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) for the purpose of a field station.

This conveyance is permitted under the Taylor Grazing Act and the provisions of the Recreation and Public Purposes Act, as amended. The land transfer allows the DWR to take ownership of the white bunkhouse building and surrounding land footprint for use as field lodging for DWR personnel and volunteers. Prior to the land transfer, the BLM had been authorizing the DWR to use the facility since the 1980s. The bunkhouse, which is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, neighbors BLM’s Rosebud Field Station that will continue to be used and managed by the BLM.

After five years of planning, the BLM is pleased to convey this parcel of land and to support the DWR in meeting their mission.

"By providing safe field quarters for staff, the BLM and Utah DWR will better serve local communities and have increased opportunities to manage fisheries, wildlife, and habitats in the area," said Matt Preston, BLM Salt Lake Field Office Manager.

The Rosebud site is an ideal staging area for DWR’s management of fish and wildlife in Box Elder County. Its proximity serves local communities that have a shared interest in conservation of the area’s natural resources.

Relevant maps, environmental analyses, and other documents in support of the land transfer can be viewed on BLM Utah’s Environmental Notification Bulletin Board: https://www.ut.blm.gov/enbb/list_project.php, NEPA # DOI-BLM-UT-W010-2014-0018-EA.
