“The Southwest Colorado Resource Advisory Council provides the BLM with vital feedback on current issues, concerns, and proposals, and enables us to engage with local communities and stakeholders,” said acting District Manager Elizabeth Dawson. “Their diverse backgrounds in southwest Colorado are essential in our decision making, and we look forward to engaging the Council to advise us on issues facing grazing on public lands.”

A public comment period is scheduled at 2:30 p.m. on March 3. Planned agenda items include engaging the Resource Advisory Council on complex grazing issues, including domestic sheep grazing in bighorn sheep habitat, livestock grazing in drought, and Gunnison Sage Grouse habitat. There will also be nominations to elect a chairperson and the opportunity for public comment. Individuals who want to make a statement during the public comment period are encouraged to also submit a written copy of their statement at the meeting for the administrative record.

The three 15-member Resource Advisory Councils in Colorado are forums for providing advice and recommendations to the BLM on various resource and land management issues. The Southwest Resource Advisory Council advises the BLM Colorado Southwest District including the Gunnison, Uncompahgre, and Tres Rios field offices.
