(BELLE FOURCHE, S.D.) --- The Bureau of Land Management is holding a meeting Oct. 4, 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., to get public input on the Yellow Creek Shooting Range near Lead and livestock grazing in the Englewood Area.

The meeting will be at the Brownsville Fire Station, located seven miles south of Deadwood at 11790 State Highway 385.

The Yellow Creek Shooting Range was once managed under a Recreation and Public Purposes Act (R&PP) Lease and the BLM is unable to renew the lease. The City of Deadwood has expressed interest in obtaining the range and maintaining it for public recreational shooting and law enforcement training. Concerns about cattle straying from public land onto Englewood Area private property is also on the agenda. The BLM would appreciate input on how to resolve the problem.

"We get a better end product when the community and stakeholders get involved,” said South Dakota Field Office Manager Chip Kimball. "We need the public interested in this area to come meet with us and share their thoughts on management of both the shooting range and the livestock grazing near Englewood." Public comments are most useful when they are specific, cite additional relevant issues and/or determine the extent of those issues, said Kimball.

Comments may be submitted at the meeting, by Postal Service mail or hand-delivered during regular business hours to the South Dakota Field Office, 309 Bonanza Street, Belle Fourche, SD 57717. The field office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Comments will be accepted until Nov. 2, 2018.

Please mark comments on the shooting range to the attention of Realty Specialist Daniel Velder. For comments on Englewood Grazing Management mark to the attention of Range Management Specialist Mitch Iverson.

Persons providing comments are advised that before including address, phone number, or e-mail address or other personal identifying information, their entire comment may be made publicly available at any time. While those who provide comments can ask that they wish the BLM to withhold personal identifying information from public review, the BLM cannot guarantee that they will be able to do so.
