MONTE VISTA, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management San Luis Valley Field Office is seeking a teacher (K-12) for the Teachers on Public Lands, Hands on the Land Program for the Rio Grande Natural Area. The Rio Grande Natural Area was selected as one of the top ten BLM HOL sites across the nation for curriculum development. The Rio Grande Natural Area is located between Alamosa, CO and the New Mexico border along the Rio Grande River corridor.

This project will last for eight weeks between June and August 2014. The teacher will receive a $2,200 professional development stipend, paid tuition for UC-Denver three credit hour graduate course and a once in a life time experience promoting hands-on learning through some of the United States’ most treasured cultural and natural resources.

“The Teachers on Public Lands program offers an excellent opportunity for teachers to learn about the unique cultural resources within the Rio Grande Natural Area,” said San Luis Valley Field Office Manager Andrew Archuleta. “The landscape and ecological diversity of the Natural Area makes it extremely valuable for engaging local and regional populations through education and interpretation.”
