ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Arizona Strip Field Office invites public comments until December 6, 2017, on the scope of the analysis and issues to consider for the proposed R & J Stone LLC (R & J), R H B Dixie Bell Mine, also known as the “Glitter Mine”.

The proposed project would provide R & J (also known as Feller Stone), the opportunity to explore, locate, and mine valuable mineral (selenite) deposits on its mining claims on public lands, located approximately 10 miles southeast of St. George and 1.5 miles south of the Arizona state line in northwestern Mohave County, Arizona.  Occupancy concurrence is also requested to allow the placement of signs and if necessary a fence to improve mine safety and restrict public access to prevent the unauthorized collecting of mineral specimens.

The purpose of this news release is to inform interested and affected parties of the proposal and to solicit comments to assist with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review of the proposal. Analysis of the proposal will be documented in an Environmental Assessment (EA). Comments received in response to this request for comments will be used to identify potential environmental issues related to the proposed action and to identify alternatives to the proposed action that meet the purpose of and need for the project, which is to provide R & J the opportunity to explore, locate, and mine valuable mineral deposits on its mining claims and BLM's responsibility under Section 302 of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 and the BLM Surface Management Regulations at 43 CFR§ 3809, to respond to a plan of operations.

A copy of the scoping letter (DOI-BLM-AZ-A010-2018-0003-EA) is available on the project website on the BLM NEPA Register.
