KEMMERER, Wyo. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Kemmerer Field Office, in cooperation with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD), invites the public to provide input on a proposal to improve the quantity and quality of mule deer habitat. The plan calls for phased vegetation treatments on BLM lands within the southern portion of the Wyoming Range mule deer herd unit. The BLM is committed to supporting healthy habitat on public lands through shared conservation stewardship. The proposal includes vegetation treatments for three main habitat types: Aspen forest, mixed mountain shrub and sagebrush. This includes additional invasive plant species control. The BLM is identifying issues for consideration in the environmental analysis and potential alternatives to the proposed action. The attached map (Figure 1) shows the proposed planning areas currently being considered for treatment. Potential project components identified include:

  • Shrub treatments
  • Reseeding
  • Construction of exclosures to reduce browsing
  • Aspen enhancements
  • Noxious weed and cheatgrass control projects
  • Grazing Management
