IDAHO FALLS, ID – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Pocatello Field Office (PFO) wants to improve local campgrounds to enhance your outdoor experience and is submitting a grant request to the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation for financial assistance. The BLM needs your input on these project applications and is requesting feedback.

“We are focusing on two project areas this year,” said Chuck Patterson, Outdoor Recreation Planner for the PFO. “We would like to improve Goodenough Creek Campground just south of Pocatello and Pipeline Campground located below the American Falls Dam on the Snake River.” The PFO has invested substantial energy into improving Goodenough Creek by installing bridges and rehabilitating the riparian areas. Patterson says that funding received from the grant would be used to build and install an additional vault toilet and an accessible campsite on the east side of the campground. Money received would also assist in the redesign work for the parking lot trailhead. “This area gets a lot of use from the locals and we feel that it is important to invest our time, energy and funding in this area,” said Patterson.

In addition, some facilities are starting to deteriorate at the Pipeline Campground, located below the American Falls Reservoir. Patterson hopes they can use the Idaho Dept. of Parks and Rec. waterways improvement grant to replace the outdated boat docks and restroom facility.
Part of the grant application seeks public comments related to the proposed projects. Please send comments by email to cpatterson@blm.gov or by mail to Bureau of Land Management, Attn: Chuck Patterson, 4350 Cliffs Drive, Pocatello, Idaho 83204.
