ST. GEORGE, Utah — The Bureau of Land Management is seeking additional public comments on a narrower range of options concerning proposed construction of the Northern Corridor highway in Washington County. In 2018, the Utah Department of Transportation applied for a right-of-way for a four-lane highway north of St. George to help ease traffic congestion in the area.
The BLM analyzed potential impacts to public land resources of the proposed highway through a 2020 environmental impact statement and a 2024 supplemental environmental impact statement. The BLM’s new draft environmental assessment is now available for review and input.
“We strive to sustain the high quality of resources on public lands while supporting the development of infrastructure and other community needs,” said BLM Color Country District Manager Gloria Tibbetts. “By reassessing this application, we seek to balance our responsibilities as managers of the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area and as a neighbor to the growing communities within Washington County.”
Additional information is available at the BLM National Environmental Policy Act Register, where comments may be submitted through the ‘Participate Now’ option. Comments may also be delivered to the BLM St. George Field Office, 4001 East Aviator Dr., St. George, UT 84790. The commend period will close Nov. 3, 2025.
