CARSON CITYThe Bureau of Land Management, Carson City District Office, is seeking public comments for the proposed Dodge Flat II Solar Energy Center in Washoe County, Nevada. The Notice of Intent to Amend the Carson City Field Office Consolidated Resource Management Plan and prepare an associated Environmental Assessment for the project was published in the Federal Register on January 19, 2024.  The 30-day scoping comment period opened today and will close February 23, 2024. The BLM will hold a scoping meeting (virtually) for the Dodge Flat II Solar Energy Center February 8, 2024. The time and call information will be announced at least 15 days in advance through the National NEPA Register project website at https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2027081/510.

The Dodge Flat II Solar Energy Center would consist of the construction, operation, and eventual decommissioning of photovoltaic solar modules, a battery energy storage system, generation tie-line, and associated facilities necessary to generate up to 200-megawatts of electricity. The expected life of the project is 30 years. The proposed project area includes approximately 700 acres of public land and approximately 1,041 acres of private land in Washoe County.  More information about the proposed project can be found on BLM’s National NEPA Register website at https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2027081/510.

“Public comments are critical as we continue to evaluate the proposed project,” said Kim Dow, Carson City District Manager. “The type of comments that would be most helpful during the scoping period include potential local concerns or opportunities related to the project, identification of potential alternatives and issues to be analyzed, possible measures to minimize or avoid adverse environmental impacts, and information about historic and cultural resources within the area that may potentially be affected.”

The BLM manages vast stretches of public lands that have the potential to make significant contributions to the nation’s renewable energy portfolio. To promote our clean energy goals, the BLM provides sites for environmentally sound development of renewable energy on public lands and new transmission routes to connect into the grid.
