BLM reopens Pit River Campground

FALL RIVER MILLS, Calif. – The Bureau of Land Management has reopened the Pit River Campground in eastern Shasta County, as the nearby Hat Fire has been contained. The campground is five miles west of Fall River Mills, along California State Route 299.
The campground offers seven campsites and a day-use area ideal for picnicking and fishing. Those with mobility difficulties can fish from an accessible fishing pier, and kayakers can take advantage of a specially designed launch ramp.
The BLM temporarily closed the campground on Aug. 10, because the Hat Fire was burning dangerously close to the campsites. Fire crews have contained the 1,900-acre blaze within fire lines.
BLM officials are reminding public land visitors that fire restrictions are in effect on northeast California public lands. Campfires are allowed only in designated, developed campgrounds and recreation sites. Vehicles and internal combustion engines are limited to established roads and trails. Firewood cutters can use chainsaws until 1 p.m. daily.
