WASHINGTON – The Bureau of Land Management will celebrate the 24th annual National Public Lands Day on Sept. 30, with the designation of a “fee-free” day at all BLM recreation and visitor sites.

The BLM, along with other participating federal land management agencies (National Park Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Department of Defense), will further recognize the invaluable contributions of its thousands of volunteers by presenting “fee-free coupons” for an additional day to volunteers participating in National Public Lands Day projects.

“The BLM invites everyone to spend this day enjoying the outdoors and visiting their favorite public lands,” said BLM Acting Director Mike Nedd. “On National Public Lands Day, we celebrate service by caring for these lands that are entrusted to all of us.”

This year, the BLM is again a leading federal partner in National Public Lands Day.  More than 10,000 volunteers are expected to take part in 275 BLM projects coordinated by over 80 field, district and state offices.  Anyone interested in participating in a project can visit the BLM’s National Public Lands Day web page, which features a map containing project information.  Please contact your local BLM office directly for information if you cannot access the web page.

National Public Lands Day, organized by the National Environmental Education Foundation, connects people to public lands in their community. It is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands and brings together hundreds of thousands of individual and organizational volunteers to help restore America’s public lands.
