BLM Plans Prescribed Burns in Yellowstone County

The Bureau of Land Management's Billings Field Office is planning prescribed burning operations on BLM-managed land in Yellowstone County during the upcoming fall months.
The prescribed burning will reduce hazardous fuel levels under controlled and prescriptive conditions. This proactive approach during cool fall conditions will help reduce hazardous fuels which in turn will reduce the likelihood of unplanned wildfire spreading from public lands onto private property.
Burning is scheduled for the Mill Creek area located approximately 17 miles north of Pompeys Pillar. During prescribed burning activity, visitors need to use caution accessing this area for their safety, as well as the safety of the firefighters conducting operations. Some smoke maybe visible in the area. All prescribed burning will be dependent on weather and fuels conditions that will be monitored closely by firefighters.
