BLM Las Cruces District Improvement Project Closes Monte Vista Trailhead

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The Bureau of Land Management Las Cruces District will temporarily suspend access to trails from the Monte Vista Trailhead of the Tortugas Mountains (aka “A” Mountain) for approximately seven to ten days beginning Jan. 17.

What To Expect:

  • District work crews will begin beautification and various maintenance projects, including hauling road base material, rebuilding the access road, and paving the parking lot;
  • By midnight Jan. 16, visitors need to remove vehicles from the trailhead of the “A” Mountain;
  • Trail access will be suspended from the “A” Mountain side until completion of work; and
  • Visitors can still access trails on the other side of the mountain from the Sunset Parking Trailhead.
