SOCORRO, N.M. – Beginning Sept. 5, 2017, the Bureau of Land Management Socorro Field Office will begin issuing personal-use fuelwood permits.

The Chupadera Mesa personal-use fuelwood area is located approximately 11.5 miles east-northeast of Bingham, north of U.S. Highway 380, adjacent to Iron Mine Road, in east-central Socorro County.  This initiative is part of the BLM’s management goal to maintain sustainable uses and improve woodland and forest health, as well as provide valuable, tangible goods and materials that Americans rely on and use everyday.

Permits may be purchased for $10 per cord at the BLM Socorro Field Office during regular business hours, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Also, be advised of scheduled U.S. Highway 380 road closures during White Sands Missile Range testing.  These closures can be found at www.wsmr.army.mil or by calling 575-678-1178.

For additional information, please contact BLM Socorro Field Office at (575) 835-0412.
