GUNNISON, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management recently named Elijah Waters as the Gunnison Field Manager.

“Elijah’s passion for public lands makes him a natural fit for our Gunnison Field Office,” said BLM Colorado State Director Ruth Welch. “He will be a welcome addition to Colorado’s management team.”

After attending North Carolina State University and earning a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Wildlife Science and Master of Science in Wildlife Biology, Waters began his career with the BLM as a fisheries biologist in Roseburg, Oregon.  In 1999, he moved to Glennallen, Alaska, and held positions as wildlife biologist, fisheries biologist and most recently fulfilled the associate field manager position.

"I was fortunate enough to complete a detail as the field manager in February and March, and my entire family fell in love with the Gunnison Basin,” said Waters. “The natural and recreational resources are world class, and I'm excited to be part of the team."

In addition to his BLM experience, he spent more than 20 years in the Army National Guard in North Carolina, Oregon and Alaska.  He also spent a year on deployment to Iraq from 2005-2006, and recently retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He and his wife, Dollie, have three children, and their family enjoys just about anything outdoors including hunting, fishing, biking, skiing, four wheeling and rafting. Waters will report on Aug. 3, 2015, and can be reached at the BLM Gunnison Field Office at 970-642-4940 or ewaters@blm.gov.
