BLM Extends Comment Period for Bering Sea-Western Interior Land Use Plan

ANCHORAGE -- The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) extended the comment period for the Bering Sea-Western Interior Resource Management Plan (RMP) to allow additional time for review and comment on the Preliminary Alternative Concepts and associated resource inventory reports. The current outreach period began Feb. 22 and was extended to May 31in response to requests from interested tribes and organizations. BLM held thirteen community meetings and an Anchorage open house during the outreach period. BLM continues to meet with stakeholder groups and consult with interested tribes and Alaska Native corporations. The purpose of this outreach is to engage the public in helping the BLM complete a range of alternatives for the Draft RMP and provide input on recently completed resource inventory reports and maps. Planning documents are available at the project website at www.blm.gov/ak/planning/bswi. Comments may be submitted by May 31 toBSWI_BLM_Comment@blm.gov. Issues to be addressed in this planning effort include subsistence resources, mineral exploration and development, special management area designations, and more. The Bering Sea-Western Interior Resource Management Plan will guide management of BLM-managed public lands for the next 20 years.
