BLM Colorado State Office Posts Sale Notice for February Oil and Gas Lease Sale

DENVER – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Colorado will offer nine parcels totaling 7,435 acres during the quarterly competitive oil and gas lease sale scheduled for 9 a.m., Feb. 13, 2014, at the Colorado State Office in Lakewood.
All the parcels are located within the Little Snake Field Office. A single parcel is located in Routt County with the other eight parcels located in Moffat County. About 2,078 acres of what is being offered for lease is on BLM surface-managed lands, the other 5,357 acres are located on private surface lands with the subsurface minerals managed by the BLM. The public has 30 days to protest any of the parcels being offered in the sale. The deadline for submitting protests is 4 p.m., Dec. 16, 2013. All protests must be received by the BLM Colorado State Office, located at 2850 Youngfield St., Lakewood, CO 80215.

The State of Colorado will receive 49 percent of the proceeds from the sale, with the remainder going to the U.S. government. In Fiscal Year 2012, the State of Colorado received more than $158 million from royalties, rentals and bonus bid payments for federal minerals, including oil and gas. The BLM Colorado State Office currently oversees about 4.2 million acres of public mineral estate leased for oil and natural gas development, which generated more than $6.5 billion in direct economic benefits in 2012 and nearly $9.5 billion in total economic impacts.
