ST. GEORGE, Utah — The Bureau of Land Management today approved the Red Cliffs-Warner Valley Land Exchange. This exchange will provide the State of Utah’s Washington County Water Conservancy District with land to support future water management needs in the fast-growing county, while ensuring the BLM’s ability to provide long-term protection for the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area.
The state will receive 929 acres of public lands in Warner Valley of eastern Washington County, and the BLM will receive 89 private acres designated as critical habitat for the Mojave desert tortoise within the conservation area. An appraisal was conducted to ensure the exchange was executed at a fair market value.
“This exchange aligns with our commitment to advance the Washington County Habitat Conservation Plan by consolidating federal ownership and enhancing habitat protection for the Mojave desert tortoise,” said BLM St. George Field Manager Jason West. “We are pleased to support the needs of the Water Conservancy District in their efforts to ensure a viable, long-term water supply for the county.”
