BLM announces public land closure in area of Pawnee Fire in Lake County

UKIAH, Calif. – Public lands in the Indian Valley and Walker Ridge areas along the Lake-Colusa county line are temporarily closed to public access because of dangers imposed by a wildfire.
The Bureau of Land Management said the Indian Valley Management Area in eastern Lake County and western Colusa County would remain closed until further notice because of the Pawnee Wildfire.
“This closure is needed to protect public health and safety,” said BLM Ukiah Field Manager Amanda James. “The closure also helps to avoid conflicts between recreation visitors and firefighters.”
The temporary closure is associated with the Pawnee Fire that broke out Saturday, June 23, north of Clearlake Oaks. As of Sunday, June 24, the fire had burned 1,500 acres and destroyed 12 structures.
CAL FIRE and the Northshore Fire Protection District are battling the blaze with assistance from state, local and federal agencies.
