BLM Announces New Appointments to Council to Advise Agency on Balanced Management of National Public Lands

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Arizona State Director today announced the appointment of three new members and reappointment of two former members to Arizona's citizen-based Resource Advisory Council (RAC). The RACs are composed of members with diverse interests and backgrounds."By working with Federal, state, local, and tribal governments, as well as leaders from industry and the conservation community, the Resource Advisory Councils exemplify the BLM's collaborative approach to public land issues," said Raymond Suazo, BLM Arizona State Director. "I want to welcome our newly appointed RAC members and salute them for their commitment to public service."The RACs, composed of citizens chosen for their expertise in natural resource issues, help the BLM carry out its nation-wide stewardship of 245 million acres - the largest land portfolio of any Federal agency. The BLM has established 29 RACs across the West, where most BLM-managed land is located.Each RAC consists of 10 to 15 members who represent stakeholder interests in public land management, such as conservationists, outdoor recreationists, ranchers, industry officials, tribal leaders, state and local government officers, academics, and others.The BLM, an agency of the Interior Department, is responsible for managing various uses - such as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production - while conserving the lands natural, historical, and cultural resources. Below are the newly appointed or newly re-appointed members of the Arizona RAC, which will meet April 27, 2016, at the BLM Arizona State Office in Phoenix:Thomas Hulen, from Tempe, Ariz. was reappointed as a representative of Dispersed Recreation interests in Category 2;Stuart Marsh, Ph.D., from Tucson, Ariz. was newly appointed as a representative of Academicians in Natural Resource Management in Category 3;Maggie Sacher, from Marble Canyon, Ariz. was reappointed as a representative of Outdoor Recreation interests in Category 1;John (JC) Sanders, from Bouse, Ariz. was newly appointed as a representative of Outdoor Recreation interests in Category 1; andStephen Trussell, from Gilbert, Ariz. was newly appointed as a representative of the Public-at-Large in Category 3.To view a complete listing of Arizona RAC members, visit the BLM website at: http://www.blm.gov/az/st/en/res/rac/az_rac_members.html
