PHOENIX – The Bureau of Land Management Phoenix District Office today announces the final supplementary rules for developed recreation areas and sites within the district, including those associated with the recreational shooting sports sites in Maricopa and Pinal Counties. The final supplementary rules will provide for safe use at each facility and at all developed recreation areas within Phoenix District boundaries.

“Public safety is of utmost importance to the BLM,” said Phoenix District Manager Leon Thomas. “These rules provide necessary measures that will allow the public to enjoy a safe recreation experience while also providing for the stewardship of public lands. They will also ensure that our staff and contractors can conduct work safely.”

In January 2020, the BLM authorized the construction of five recreational shooting sports sites: Baldy Mountain, Box Canyon, Saddleback Mountain, Church Camp Road and Narramore Road. The new facilities will expand and enhance recreational shooting opportunities on public lands.

In August 2020, a Notice of Proposed Supplementary Rules for Selected Public Lands in Gila, Maricopa, Pima, Pinal and Yavapai Counties, was published in the Federal Register beginning a 60-day public comment period. All substantive comments were considered and are reflected in the final notice. The rules will become effective on April 12.

A notice of these final supplementary rules was published in the Federal Register today. All associated documents, including maps, are available online at https://go.usa.gov/xmfVv. This information will also be made available at the BLM Phoenix District Office, 21605 North 7th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85027 and online.
