BLM announces extension of Bullfrog Day-Use Recreation Area infrastructure improvement project

LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. - The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Lake Havasu Field Office is extending the construction project to replace a failing retaining wall at Bullfrog Day-Use Recreation Area. The original completion date was set for February but has been extended through May 2, 2019. During the construction phase, the site will be temporarily inaccessible for safety reasons.
The infrastructure improvement project is addressing structural concerns with the current retaining wall, which was built in 1968 and is failing. The new retaining wall will provide improved soil stabilization, safety, and beach and river access at the site.
“We appreciate the public’s patience while we continue our on-going effort to modernize our infrastructure and enhance recreational opportunities along the river that will ultimately create a safer and improved beach recreation experience for visitors.” said Jason West, Lake Havasu Field Manager.
Bullfrog Day-Use Area is on the California side of the lower Colorado River within the Parker Strip Recreation Area. The site provides river access, a swimming beach, shaded picnic areas and restroom facilities. The site is managed by the BLM Arizona Lake Havasu Field Office.
