Subject:           Rangeland and Sagebrush-Steppe Stewardship Award Nominations

Program Area: Rangeland Management.

Purpose:  This Information Bulletin (IB) transmits a request for nominations for the 2022 Rangeland and Sagebrush-Steppe Stewardship Awards. Awards will be presented to one (1) grazing permittee/lessee AND one (1) collaborative team in each category of “Rangeland Stewardship” and “Sagebrush-Steppe Stewardship,” (four awards) at the Public Lands Council’s Annual Meeting, the week of August 22 in Cody, Wyoming.

Attachment 1 describes selection criteria for the nominations. All nominations should include:

  • The condition of public rangelands that would demonstrate healthy ecosystems.
  • The use of beneficial management practices to restore, protect, or enhance rangeland resources.
  • Efforts to collaborate and cooperate with other users of public lands.
  • Communicate successful management outcomes with other land stewards.

Offices are encouraged to nominate an individual or team that was not selected from previous years that continue to meet the criteria. Offices from states that have not nominated an individual/team or had a nomination selected in recent years for a Stewardship award are strongly encouraged to apply.

Please submit nominations to your Deputy State Director for Resources and copy your State Range Program Lead by June 8, 2022. Deputy State Directors will review the nominations and submit the approved nominations via email to Marlo Draper, Division Chief, Division of Forest, Rangeland, and Vegetation Resources (HQ-220) (mdraper@blm.gov) by June 23, 2022. Please indicate which award the nomination is for in the subject line of the email.
