Campbell Creek Youth Stewards

Make a difference on public lands!

Mon., August 3 – Fri., August 7; 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.

SPOTS ARE AVAILABLE!

The Bureau of Land Management Campbell Creek Science Center (CCSC) is looking for 10 youths ages 12-15. Are you interested in spending time outside, learning about nature, and giving back to Campbell Tract?

As a youth steward you will:

  • Learn to work safely with tools to do trail maintenance on Campbell Tract such as moving mulch or cutting back vegetation
  • Learn about Alaskan native plants and maintain the native plant gardens
  • Remove invasive plant species
  • Explore the forest and creek and learn how to share that experience with others through social media and a Trailhead Naturalist talk
  • Practice teamwork skills, gain confidence in the outdoors, and consider a career in land management
  • Gain volunteer service hours!

How it Works:

  • There is no application. The first 10 interested youths will be accepted into the youth stewardship program.
  • Legal guardians must complete paperwork by Monday, July 6.
  • There will be a chance to meet with CCSC instructors before the start of the program to answer questions.
  • Youth stewards must be committed to attending all five days.
  • Program starts: Monday, August 3 at 1:30 p.m. at Campbell Creek Science Center, 5600 Science Center Drive.
  • Stewardship projects will take place almost entirely outdoors. Trails may be muddy. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Temperatures on the Campbell Tract can often be 10 degrees colder than other parts of Anchorage.
