Event Description

Join us for the second Wind River Wild Horse Ranch Day on Sept. 6! Event will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Approximately 20 wild horses will be available for adoption or sale, first come first served. Free tours to see the resident herd of wild horses will also be offered.

Wild horse public off-range pastures help the BLM care for excess wild horses that have been removed from overpopulated herds roaming Western public rangelands. They provide opportunities for people to learn more about the complexities of the wild horse and burro program, and to experience a piece of our shared American heritage.

The Wind River Ranch is located at 8616 U.S. Hwy. 287. It offers tours to see the horses and other educational opportunities from May through September each year. Visit Wind River Ranch to learn more about this public pasture.

Getting there: Take U.S. Highway 287 north from Lander 7.5 miles toward Ft. Washakie. The Visitor Center driveway is the first entrance on your right after Plunkett Road.

To learn more about the BLM’s Wild Horse and Burro Program, including adoption requirements, visit blm.gov/whb or contact the national information center at 866-468-7826 or [email protected].
