Event Description
LOMA, Mont. – Volunteers can celebrate National Public Lands Day by learning about invasive species present in the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument and help Bureau of Land Management staff remove them from the Decision Point area on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Before beginning work, a park ranger will share the significance of the site with a short interpretive talk. This area, near Loma, Montana, was where the Corps of Discovery, led by famed explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark determined the true course of the Missouri River after almost a week of surveying and exploring the area.
Efforts from volunteers will help remove problematic, noxious weeds such as spotted knapweed (Centaurea stoebe) which impact the ecology of the site. Work will be done throughout the Decision Point area, which will contribute to the health and beauty of your public lands.
Participants should bring any needed personal food and drink, and wear closed-toe, sturdy shoes and apparel suitable for the day’s weather conditions and work activity. All supplies will be provided such as hand tools, gloves, and eye protection.
For more information call the Missouri Breaks Interpretive Center at 406-622-4000, or see the event announcement online.
