ELKO, Nev. – Prescribed fires are planned for multiple days between March 23, 2026, through May 30, 2026, on public land approximately 26 miles north of Battle Mountain, NV.

This prescribed fire is designed to reduce the accumulation of tumbleweed along existing fence lines. The project goals are to increase wildlife movement, improve wildlife habitat, and decrease the risk of a damaging wildland fire.

Resources on the project may consist of several wildland firefighters, command personnel, and one fire-suppression equipped utility vehicle. The planned fire will only take place when weather conditions are in accordance with the prescribe fire plan. The area will not be closed to public access and roads will remain open. Previous burns in this fuel type and area have been of short duration and caused minimal smoke impact.
