Event Description

Join the Bureau of Land Management at the Painted Canyon trailhead as we highlight the newly installed Meccacopia Special Recreation Management Area – Painted Canyon kiosk, celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence, and share educational materials that promote safe and responsible recreation on public lands throughout the Coachella Valley. Visitors will also have an opportunity to learn about wilderness-designated areas, including the Mecca Hills Wilderness, home to Painted Canyon, and discover how these unique landscapes are managed.

The BLM manages about 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
