Event Description

WINNEMUCCA, Nev. –  The Humboldt River Field Office is reconstructing the Old Man Spring exclosure. The exclosure is to keep livestock out of the Old Man Spring riparian area and consists of an existing 3.3-mile-long fence, built in 1977. In total, it excludes approximately 320 acres of upland habitat and 54 acres of riparian habitat within the Horse Creek Allotment, about 65 miles north of Winnemucca. The exclosure also contains a range improvement project of a nearby spring box for Upper Riser Spring, a water pipeline and water trough for wildlife.

“When time and funding allow, the range staff will rebuild exclosures like this to bring the fence up to wildlife-friendly specifications to help with wildlife ingress and egress while continuing to meet riparian objectives identified in our Resource Management Plan,” said Humboldt River Field Office Manager, John Mitchell.

The proposed action, Categorical Exclusion (CX), includes reconstruction of the exclosure fence and removing a nonfunctioning range improvement within the exclosure.

Documents for the project can be reviewed at the BLM National NEPA Register. For more information call Natural Resource Specialist, William Wagner-Ertz at (775) 623-1500.
