Cow Camp Fire Burning Southeast of Ten Sleep
WORLAND, Wyo. — Wildland firefighters, in coordination with local cooperators, are responding to the Cow Camp Fire, reported September 3, 2026, southeast of Ten Sleep in Washakie County. The fire is estimated at approximately 250 acres and is 0% contained. The cause is unknown.
Response actions
Ground and aviation resources worked aggressively on the fire yesterday. Additional crews and several air resources have been ordered to support suppression efforts today. A Wyoming Type 3 Incident Management Team has also been ordered and is expected to assume command later today.
Current conditions / public safety
The fire is burning in grass, sagebrush, juniper and timber, with some torching and spot fires reported. Red flag conditions are expected today, with wind gusts of 25 mph or greater and relative humidity falling into the teens, creating the potential for increased fire activity.
The Washakie County Fire Warden has issued a burn restriction for Washakie County. The public is asked to follow all restrictions and use extreme caution to prevent additional human-caused fires. Firefighting resources are currently stretched thin, making prevention especially important.
