Elko, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management Elko District is making Christmas tree-cutting permits available to the public. Permits cost $5 each with a limit of 10 per purchaser. Purchase permits online or in the office.

Online Purchasing:

Permits are available for purchase online 24 hours a day, seven days a week through the BLM Special Forest Products Online Permit Sales Pilot Program. To purchase a permit online, go to https://forestproducts.blm.gov/. Click on Nevada, select the Elko and select Christmas tree. Complete and submit the application. Enter your credit/debit card information. Your payment will be processed within minutes, and you may print your permit. Additional information, including stipulations and a map are available for download. All purchased permits are final, no refunds will be granted.

If you are unable to purchase online we have limited hours to purchase permits in person at our Elko Office.

The offices will conduct over-the-counter sales through December 24th. The Elko District Office is located at 3900 E Idaho Street, Elko NV, Office hours are 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding Thanksgiving Day.

The permit allows the purchaser to cut Pinyon Pine and Juniper trees ONLY, on Bureau of Land Management administered lands. Trees cannot be cut in areas designated as wilderness study areas (WSA’s). BLM areas recommended for tree hunters are Spruce Mountain, east of Ruby Valley; Cherry Creek Range, west of Currie; the Murdock Mountains, west of Montello; Dolly Varden Mountain, northeast of Currie; Pequop Mountains and Wood Hills, both east of Wells; Pilot Range, north of Wendover; and Sugar Loaf Peak, south of the Goshute Mountains.

Free National Mobile Map Package (MMPK): To help assist in locating local areas anyone can download statewide MMPK files from Field Maps without an account. These files work offline and display your location over various BLM datasets with a focus on recreation. For instructions on how to download this package, please visit the public BLM site.
