Celebrate National Public Lands Day by Caring for Public Lands Near You

BILLINGS, Mont. – Get ready to roll up your sleeves for our treasured public lands! The Bureau of Land Management Montana/Dakotas invites anyone who loves the outdoors to celebrate National Public Lands Day by volunteering at one of four service events planned to occur at BLM-administered locations across Montana.

“Whether it’s cleaning up recreation areas, improving trails, or participating in an educational program, there’s something for everyone to get involved in,” said Whit Patterson, BLM Montana/Dakotas outdoor recreation planner. “With this year’s theme – Caring for Our Shared America – we’re reminded that these amazing outdoor spaces are a collective responsibility. Together, we can help ensure they remain beautiful and accessible for everyone.” 

Since 1994, volunteers across the nation have joined together on National Public Lands Day to perform acts of service and help safeguard public lands. Now, it’s the largest single-day volunteer event dedicated to public lands in the country. This year, National Public Lands Day is officially recognized on Saturday, Sept. 26, with volunteer events occurring on and around that date.

Saturday, Sept. 19 – Pipestone OHV Area cleanup and OHV safety education; Jefferson County, Montana.

Saturday, Sept. 26 – Dean S. Reservoir Recreation Site trail improvement; Custer County, Montana.

Saturday, Sept. 26 – Scratchgravel Hills Recreation Area cleanup; Lewis and Clark County, Montana.

Saturday, Sept. 26 – Four Dances Special Recreation Management Area cleanup; Yellowstone County, Montana.
