POINT ARENA, Calif. — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) invites the public to participate in “Celebrate the Coast,” from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sat. Sept. 20, at Point Arena. The event is free to the public and activities will be happening along the coastal trail between City Hall and the Lighthouse. Mendocino College Field Station, found along the trail, will be offering an open house.
The public can begin at either Point Arena Lighthouse, 45500 Lighthouse Road (just north of Point Arena), or the Point Arena City Hall, 451 School Street, Point Arena. More details about the daily activities can be found on the Celebrate the Coast brochure.
The BLM Ukiah Field Office is hosting the event as part of National Public Lands Day in partnership with the Friends of Point Arena-Stornetta Lands, Point Arena Lighthouse, City of Point Arena, Point Arena Merchants Association, and Mendocino College.
Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands, the first shoreline unit of the California Coastal National Monument, offers spectacular coastal views, hiking trails, whale watching, and abundant wildlife. Located along Mendocino County's rugged coastline near Point Arena, the area features coastal bluffs, sea arches, the Garcia River estuary, sandy beaches, and the historic Point Arena Lighthouse.
