BUTTE Mont. – The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Butte Field Office issued a decision today to implement the Little Wolf Forest Management Project in Lewis and Clark County.

The project includes up to 22 acres of forest management treatments within the wildland urban interface. The BLM will thin both live and dead trees to decrease tree density to improve forest health and reduce hazardous fuels and wildfire hazard. At the same time, the project will produce timber to support the local economy and forestry related jobs.

Members of the public affected by the BLM’s authorization of the forest management project can appeal the decision by May 13, 2026.

The categorical exclusion and decision for the project is available at: eplanning.blm.gov/Project-Home/?id=403c3c47-1838-f111-88b3-001dd802f839
