Burns District Office offers scoping for 2024 Solomon Fire Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation Plan
The Bureau of Land Management’s Burns District is proposing Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation treatments for the 2024 Solomon Fire, which burned approximately 1,939 acres of juniper woodland and sagebrush habitat in southern Harney County. The project is intended to stabilize soils, restore vegetation and wildlife habitat—particularly for Greater Sage-Grouse—protect wilderness characteristics, and support continued grazing and wild horse management. Proposed treatments include seeding, sagebrush planting, temporary fencing, post-fire juniper removal, erosion control, sediment cleanout in water catchments, and monitoring. The BLM is currently seeking public input to help determine whether these actions are adequately covered by existing environmental analyses, with written comments accepted through December 31, 2025.
The project area is located in southern Harney County, Oregon, within and adjacent to the Blitzen River Wilderness Study Area on BLM-managed public lands in the Andrews/Steens Field Office.
The BLM manages about 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
