Event Description

The Bureau of Land Management Southern Nevada District announces a public comment period for the draft Recreation Area Management Plan and Environmental Assessment for the La Madre Foothills area. The public comment period is open from March 22, 2024, to April 22, 2024.

The plan guides future development and provides management direction for recreation resources within the La Madre Foothills area, located in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area on land north of Calico Basin to Kyle Canyon Road and east of the La Madre Mountain Wilderness. The plan analyzes public access to the National Conservation Area to balance recreation opportunities with resource protection.

“Suburban housing development at Skye Canyon and Cliff Shadows is increasing recreation pressure on the area, and the recreation area management plan analyzes public access to the National Conservation Area and balances recreation opportunities with resource protection," said Boris Poff, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Manager.

A virtual public meeting will be held April 3, 2024, starting at 6 p.m. Pacific Time. Registration for the meeting is available at https://blm.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_FV8YLc4ITNSqdDLg31W-Sg.
