VERNAL, Utah — The Bureau of Land Management plans to ignite slash piles in the Pine Springs project area near the intersection of Seep Ridge Road and Pine Spring Canyon Road starting Monday, Nov. 17, 2025, pending favorable conditions. If weather or fuel conditions aren’t suitable that day, crews will look for workable windows later in the week. Once initiated, the prescribed pile burns may take multiple days or weeks to complete and will be monitored throughout the process to ensure public safety. The Pine Springs project area in southern Uintah County covers about 180 acres. A map of the area can be found here. There will be minimal recreational impact.

These burns will remove pinyon-juniper debris from earlier thinning and hazardous fuel reduction work. While smoke may be visible in the area at times, most of the smoke will lift and dissipate during the warmest parts of the day. Weather and fuel moisture levels will be closely monitored.
