BLM signs decision to develop Beas Lewis Flat campground
TORREY, Utah — The Bureau of Land Management has signed the decision for the development of the Beas Lewis Flat Campground, located just east of Torrey, Utah, approximately 0.3 miles east from Utah State Route 24. The project aims to accommodate growing visitation from unmanaged dispersed camping, including sanitation concerns, resource degradation, and visitor safety.
The Beas Lewis Flat Campground will include up to 45 campsites in its initial phase of construction. Amenities will include vault toilets, trash collection, interpretive signage, fire rings, and picnic tables. The campground will also feature ADA-accessible sites, educational signage supporting dark sky values, and infrastructure designed to blend with the natural landscape. Professional engineering design is expected to being in winter 2025, with construction anticipated in 2026. The project is partially funded by the Utah Outdoor Recreation Initiative and The Foundation for America’s Public Lands.
“The BLM is committed to increasing recreational access while maintaining responsible resource stewardship,” said David Mortensen, BLM Richfield Field Manager. “By authorizing this campground, we’re improving the visitor experience and addressing long-standing concerns about unmanaged dispersed camping in the area.”
A public comment period was held September 2 through September 17, 2025. For more information and to view the Environmental Assessment and Decision Record, please visit the BLM National NEPA Register.
