The Bureau of Land Management, Carson City District, Sierra Front Field Office, has made available for public review the Preliminary North Complex Wild Horse Gather Environmental Assessment (PEA). The BLM is also seeking public comments and input under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act for the project. This includes seeking information and identifying historic properties in or near the project area.

The proposed action is to gather and remove excess wild horses from inside and outside of the Granite Peak, Dogskin Mountains, and Flanigan Herd Management Areas (HMAs). The proposed action would reduce the population to the low end of the appropriate management level (AML) for each of the respective HMA and would implement fertility control within the Flanigan HMA.

The public comment period is from May 22, 2026, through June 22, 2026. A copy of the PEA is available on-line at: https://eplanning.blm.gov/Project-Home/?id=390602e3-6b54-f111-bec6-001dd8029ed0

BLM prefers comment to be submitted via the BLM National NEPA Register website listed above by clicking on “participate now” on the left column. Comments may also be submitted via mail to 5665 Morgan Mill Road, Carson City, NV 89701. Please address written comments for the “North Complex Wild Horse Gather PEA”.
