ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) St. George Field Office is seeking public input on an environmental assessment analyzing a proposed right-of-way (ROW) grant to Utah State Parks. The ROW would authorize construction of a road and bridge providing access to the west side of Gunlock State Park in Washington County, Utah.

The proposed Gunlock State Park West Access Road environmental assessment includes constructing approximately 0.78 miles of roadway—0.44 miles on BLM-administered land and 0.34 miles on state land—beginning at Gunlock Drive and crossing the Santa Clara River via a 130-foot bridge. The road would terminate within Gunlock State Park.

The proposed access route is intended to enhance public safety and recreation opportunities by relieving parking congestion along Gunlock Drive, reducing crowding at the popular east side of the falls, and creating formal access to recreational features on the southwest side of Gunlock Reservoir.

The 30-day public comment period runs from May 1 through June 2, 2025 . This comment period provides an opportunity for the public to review and provide input on the environmental assessment.

Project details and instructions for submitting comments are available at the BLM National NEPA Register.

For more information, contact the St. George Field Office at 435-688-3200.
