BLM seeks input on wild horse management plan for central Nevada

The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment on the preliminary environmental assessment and proposed herd management area plan for the Callaghan Complex in north central Nevada. 

The Callaghan Complex encompasses approximately 1.15 million acres of public and private land, has an established appropriate management level of 323-552 and includes the North Shoshone Herd Area and the Bald Mountain, Callaghan, South Shoshone, and the northern portion of Hickison herd management areas. 

The preliminary environmental assessment analyzes the direct, indirect, and cumulative effects from implementing the herd management area plan which includes population control measures such as gathers and fertility control. 

Additional information is available at the BLM National NEPA Register, where comments may be submitted through the “Participate Now” option (preferred). Comments may also be delivered to BLM Mount Lewis Field Office, Attn: Wild Horse and Burro Specialist, 50 Bastian Road, Battle Mountain NV, 89820. The comment period will close on Sept. 3, 2025.
