Event Description
FALLS CHURCH, Va. – The Bureau of Land Management invites the public to attend a workshop on Aug. 11, 2025, to help shape the future of outdoor recreation at Maryland Point in Charles County, Maryland.
This workshop will focus on gathering input for the development of a Recreation Area Management Plan—a long-term strategy to guide public access and recreational opportunities at the 24-acre site along the Potomac River, located about 50 miles south of Washington, D.C.
The BLM is exploring ideas for creating a diverse, sustainable recreation site that may include hiking trails, water access, hunting, camping, fossil collection, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Community feedback is essential to ensure the plan reflects local needs and values.
Following the public engagement process, the BLM will prepare a draft recreation plan and determine the appropriate level of environmental review to evaluate potential impacts and support responsible, inclusive access to public lands.
The BLM encourages local residents, outdoor enthusiasts, and interested stakeholders to participate in shaping the future of Maryland Point.
The workshop will be held at the Nanjemoy Community Center Aug. 11 from 6:30-8 p.m. If unable to attend the workshop, public feedback can be submitted by emailing [email protected] or by calling (703) 339-8009. The BLM will accept feedback until Sept. 5, 2025.
