BLM seeks input on proposed Montezuma Gold exploration project near Goldfield
BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment on the proposed Montezuma Gold exploration project on public lands approximately seven miles southwest of Goldfield in Esmeralda County.
If approved, Kinross Gold Corporation could explore for gold by drilling with planned modification of a total of 250 acres across 5,672 acres on public lands. The company would return modified lands to their natural state after exploration activities are complete. Any future potential mining would include further environmental review and opportunities for public comment.
Additional information, including the draft environmental assessment, is available at the BLM National NEPA Register, where comments may be submitted through the ‘Participate Now’ option (preferred). Comments may be mailed to: Bureau of Land Management, Attention: Montezuma Exploration Project, P.O. Box 911, Tonopah, NV 89409. The comment period will close July 23, 2025.
For more information, please contact BLM Planning and Environmental Coordinator Jeff Kirkwood at BLM_NV_BMDO_P&[email protected] or (775) 635-4164.
