BLM Seeks Input for Proposed Herd Management Updates at Muddy Creek
PRICE, Utah – The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comments on an environmental assessment that proposes new wild horse management in the 283,400-acre Muddy Creek herd management area near Emery in Emery County.
Current wild horse populations in the area exceed the appropriate management level of 75-125 animals. As of March 2026, there are approximately 255 wild horses in the area. Chronic herd overpopulation damages habitats and can lead to starvation and thirst for the animals.
The BLM is committed to maintaining healthy wild horses on healthy, productive public rangelands. Public input is valuable early in the process and will enable the BLM to develop a well-informed environmental assessment.
Additional information is available at the BLM National NEPA Register, where comments may be submitted through the ‘Participate Now’ option until Aug. 5, 2026. For more information, please contact BLM Planning & Environmental Coordinator Daniel Kauffman at [email protected] or 435-781-4425.
